Sea Otter Classic: Monterey, California. This is one of the largest mountain bike festivals in North America, attracting thousands of riders and fans from around the world. It features a variety of competitions, including cross-country, downhill, and slopestyle events. Typically held in April, it’s one of the largest cycling festivals in North America, featuring a wide range of events, including cross-country, downhill, dual slalom, and enduro races, as well as road and gravel events. It also includes a massive expo where attendees can demo the latest bikes and gear. There are cash prizes for top finishers in competitive events, along with sponsorships and recognition.


Red Bull Rampage: Virgin, Utah. Usually held in October, it’s known for its extreme terrain and massive jumps, set in the rugged desert landscape of southern Utah. There is a substantial cash prize for the winners, along with sponsorships and recognition in the mountain biking community.


Crankworx Whistler: Whistler, British Columbia, Canada. Typically takes place in August and is renowned for its diverse events, including downhill, slopestyle, and enduro races, as well as freestyle competitions and exhibitions. Competitors can win cash prizes, as well as points towards the overall Crankworx World Tour championship.


Downieville Classic: Downieville, California. Usually held in July, it combines two days of racing: a 29-mile cross-country race and a 15-mile downhill race, showcasing the diverse skills of riders. It typically runs from spring to fall, with races held at different venues throughout the season, featuring highly technical courses that challenge even the most skilled athletes. Each race venue offers its own unique terrain and atmosphere. Riders compete for both individual race victories and overall series titles, with cash prizes awarded to top finishers.


Red Bull Hardline: Dinas Mawddwy, Wales, UK. Typically held in September, it’s known for its incredibly challenging course, featuring massive jumps, steep drops, high speed descents and technical sections. The course is built into the rugged Welsh countryside, adding to the extreme nature of the event. There are cash prizes for top finishers, as well as recognition for conquering one of the toughest downhill courses in the world.


Downhill World Championships: an annual competition that crowns the best downhill mountain biker in the world. It is held in a different location each year, determined by the International Cycling Union (UCI), and features some of the most challenging tracks in the world. Typically held in late summer or early fall, it brings together the best downhill riders from around the world to compete for the prestigious rainbow jersey. The event features a challenging course with steep descents, technical features, and high speeds. Along with the honor of wearing the rainbow jersey, winners receive recognition as world champions in their respective categories.
