What Size Backpack to Choose
Choosing the right size backpack involves considering several factors to ensure comfort, functionality, and suitability for your needs. The capacity is measured in liters.
We’re here to help you select the right size backpack.

What’s the Purpose?
Daypack (10-30 liters): for short hikes, city tours, and daily use.
Weekend Pack (30-50 liters): for 2-3 day trips.
Multi-day Pack (50-70 liters): for trips lasting 3-5 days.
Extended Trip Pack (70+ liters): for longer trips or carrying extra gear.
Your Torso Length is Important: See Chart Below
Backpack sizes often relate to torso length rather than overall height. To measure your torso length:
Find your C7 vertebra (the prominent bone at the base of your neck), then locate the top of your hip bones (iliac crest), and measure the distance between these two points.
Does the Pack Fit Comfortably?
Be sure the backpack's suspension system matches your torso length.
The bulk of the weight should be close to your lower back or lumbar.
The hip belt should sit comfortably on your hips, not above or below.
Adjust the shoulder straps so they contour your shoulders, provide support and ensure the weight is distributed comfortably.
Visit a store and try on different packs with weight in them to simulate real usage.

Assess and Capacity
Estimate the amount of gear you need to carry and choose a pack that can accommodate it without being overly large. Keep your backpack dry at all costs.
Consider the pack's internal and external compartments, pockets, and attachment points for organization and easy access according to your needs.
Look for Additional Features
A well-ventilated back panel can prevent overheating.
Consider how easily you can access your gear (top-loading, side access, front panel access).
If you plan to use a hydration system, be sure the pack is compatible.
Look for weather resistant materials and features that offer protection against the elements.

Weight
A lighter pack is generally preferable, but make sure it doesn't compromise on durability and comfort.
Take these factors into account and you’ll find a backpack that fits well, meets your capacity needs, and suits whatever activities you have in mind.
