P-Tex Repair: How to fix your snowboard with P-tex

P-Tex for Small Snowboard Repairs

At SENDY we’re all about keeping gear in good condition so you’re on the mountain longer! Every now and then, you'll feel a rock scraping along under your snowboard, creating a a nasty gouge. That's where P-tex comes in.

P-tex is a type of plastic that’s commonly used to repair minimal damage to snowboards, like scratches or small cracks.

Here is a step-by-step guide to repairing a snowboard with P-tex:

First, clean the damaged area of the snowboard with a cleaning solution and a soft cloth. Make sure the area is completely clean and free of dirt, oil, and wax.

Then melt the P-tex by lighting the end of the stick with a lighter or match, or better yet, a household candle. Take care, because molten P-tex sticks to everything!

Apply the melted P-tex to the damaged area of the snowboard by pressing the melted end of the P-tex stick onto the board. Make sure to apply the the substance evenly and thinly.

Allow the P-tex to cool and harden completely. This usually takes 5 to 10 minutes.

Remove excess P-tex with a metal scraper or fine-grit sandpaper, smooth out any rough edges or bumps, scraping or sanding evenly to prevent any dips or bumps.

Apply a fresh coat of wax to the entire snowboard, including the P-tex repair. This will help protect the repair.

Note: P-tex repairs are not suitable for large damages or cracks, and should only be used for small repairs. P-tex can fix just about anything if you're in a jam, and it's always better than letting moisture into the wood core. With major damage, it's best to take your board to a professional repair shop.
