This chart is a general reference. Helmet sizing varies by manufacturer, so always check a brand-specific size chart before purchasing a new helmet.

Helmets are designed for a single large impact. If the hard foam interior collapses or cracks, replace your helmet!

Try on lots of helmets (always with your goggles) to find the one that’s most comfortable.

To determine the correct size:

Measure the circumference of your head with a soft tape measure. Keep the tape level, just above your ears and 1” above your eyebrows, to measure the largest part of your head. Refer to the manufacturer’s chart on the helmet packaging for the corresponding size.

Check the fit:

Your helmet should feel snug but not tight. Shake your head. If it can rock back and forth, it’s too loose, so try a smaller size and adjust the sizing mechanism, or use thicker sizing pads. Push up the front and back edges. If they move, tighten the straps.

Make sure the helmet fits snugly to the top of your goggles without interfering with vision or pushing the goggles down. There should be no gap.

Your helmet should be low enough in the front to protect your forehead (no more than 1" above the eyebrows). Make sure there are no gaps between your head and the helmet lining. The helmet should also cover the lower back of your head.

Chinstrap:
The strap should fit snugly against your throat, but loose enough for you to chew food without feeling choked or pinched. Without a fastened strap, your helmet is useless as it will fly off on impact.
