Avalanche Airbag: New Technology from Black Diamond

The Latest Technology in Avalanche Safety

The Black Diamond Halo 28 JetForce Avalanche Airbag Pack is an innovative piece of safety equipment designed to reduce the risk of burial in an avalanche for backcountry skiers and snowboarders.

Here's an overview of its features and how it works

Avalanche Airbag System: the Halo 28 JetForce pack has an integrated avalanche airbag system, which consists of a large airbag that inflates rapidly when triggered. The airbag is designed to help keep you on the surface of the avalanche debris, increasing your chances of being found and rescued.

JetForce Technology: unlike traditional compressed air or nitrogen systems, the Halo 28 JetForce pack uses JetForce Technology, which relies on a rechargeable lithium-ion battery-powered fan to inflate the airbag. This system has several advantages: multiple deployments on a single charge, the ability to practice deployments without using expensive refill cartridges, and the option for easy travel without restrictions on compressed gas cartridges.

Rechargeable Battery: a rechargeable lithium-ion battery provides the energy needed to inflate the airbag. The battery can be charged via USB and gathers enough power for multiple deployments, making it convenient for extended backcountry trips.

Rapid Deployment: in the event of an avalanche, you can deploy the airbag by pulling a handle located on the shoulder strap of the pack. The JetForce fan inflates the airbag within seconds, helping to increase your volume and reduce your chances of burial in the snow.

Safety Features: may include a helmet carry system, dedicated avalanche safety gear pocket, ice axe attachment points, and adjustable straps for a secure and comfortable fit.

Lightweight and Functional Design: the pack is designed to be lightweight and functional, with multiple compartments for storing gear, hydration compatibility, and external attachment points for additional equipment like skis or snowboards.

Any winter backcountry adventure or skiing/snowboarding off-piste in avalanche terrain calls for avalanche safety gear. While it can’t guarantee survival in an avalanche, it significantly improves the wearer's chances of being located and rescued. Don’t consider it optional. Ride on!
